A Strong History

Chad was born at the Alachua General Hospital in Gainesville and raised in Newberry. He graduated from Newberry Jr. SR. High school in 1984 as a football star and went on to Bethel College in Kansas to play for their football team.

After returning to Alachua County, he enrolled and completed the Police Academy and first joined the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office on patrol for the midnight shift. After two years, he transferred to the Juvenile Relations Bureau and started his role as a school resource officer. He served first at Lake Forest before heading to Newberry High School and Oak View Middle School, where he coached football, taught classes, counseled students and helped create the Criminal Justice program, which has remained a very popular magnet program for Alachua County Public Schools.

After six years, Chad transferred back to Patrol Division and quickly joined Special Operations in the FOCUS Unit and the Swat Team, where he worked narcotics investigations. He was instrumental in starting two grants, the Edward Byrne Grant and the Weed & Seed, that paid deputies overtime to work Street Level Narcotics, which strengthened the department and put more attention on drug crimes. He also implemented a Street Level Drug program that seized thousands of dollars, vehicles and over a million dollars worth of narcotics off our streets. During his tour as a supervisor in Special Operations, he gained the respect from other agencies as being one of the hardest workers at the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office.

In 2008, Chad started at the Alachua Police Department and worked his way up to Chief of Police. He was able to implement a new policy & procedures manual, and a new CAD & RMS system. As a result of this implementation, the Alachua Police Department started the process to become an accredited agency, which they were granted in 2022. During his time in Alachua, there was an increase in gang related activity and Chad created a team to coordinate with other local and federal agencies.

In February of 2022, he rejoined the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office as the Major of Operations. In August of 2022, Chad was promoted to the rank of Colonel, who is the 3rd in charge of the entire agency.
